Making Cash On The Web is a serious attempt to compile useful information about making money on the internet. It is a combination of things that I have learned myself, as well as information culled from other sources. It is NOT about get rich quick schemes, or wierd marketing programs. I am not going to sell you anything.
Following on the success of Google’s Adsense, there are a lot of contextual pay per click ad programs out there. Unfortunately, they all look somewhat alike.
You have to see it. You’ll really like them.
One of the fastest ways to higher ranking in the search engines (PageRank and such) is to get links from the so-called “authority sites.”
But who are they?
Obviously if you’re active in your field, you may know of a few. But as I studied the problem for one of my own websites, I realized that the authority sites have high ranking, but don’t offer links pages—let alone links on their main page.
So that means that I have to find out who is linking to the authority sites, and giving them all of that high page rank love. Then, alll I need to do is get those same site to link to me and I also become an authority site.
(The difference is that I will be generous with my links. I’m always willing to hand out links to someone with something interesting to share)
Randy Cullom has created an interesting web tool for finding the authority sites and their backlinks. On his site, he has a page where you type in a keyword or two. It then finds the highest ranked pages in either Google or Yahoo for those terms. Clicking on another button will find the backlinks that all of them have in common. Presumably, these are among the pages that are generating high powered links for the authority.
I’ve had mixed results for my websites’ keywords. You ought to give it a try yourself.
The key to getting more traffic, and to improving your position in the search engines is to get as many other sites to link to you as possible.
One way to do this is to find the links pages of sites that are related to yours.
So go to Google and type in
KEYWORD Add a Link
KEYWORD Add a Site
and several other variations on the theme. This should turn up vast lists of places where you can enter your own site.
Finding the right domain name is tough. There are hundreds of millions of combinations of good words out there, but looking them up one by one can be time consuming.
A good online tool is Nameboy. With this tool, you type in a word, and it automatically looks for available combinations using that word as a base.
The Google Adwords Keyword Tool is a useful way of finding appropriate keywords for your topic.
If your topic is cancer, for example, the tool returns the following ideas:
# prostate cancer
# cancer wigs
# cancer information
# cancer insurance
# breast cancer awareness
# alternative cancer treatment
# skin cancer
# colon cancer
# non small cell lung cancer
Since these are the top keywords for this topic, a wise webmaster would fill out her site by adding pages or posts on these topics.
