Making Cash On The Web is a serious attempt to compile useful information about making money on the internet. It is a combination of things that I have learned myself, as well as information culled from other sources. It is NOT about get rich quick schemes, or wierd marketing programs. I am not going to sell you anything.
If you don't yet have a website but want to get started making cash on the web, start here.
One of the fastest ways to higher ranking in the search engines (PageRank and such) is to get links from the so-called “authority sites.”
But who are they?
Obviously if you’re active in your field, you may know of a few. But as I studied the problem for one of my own websites, I realized that the authority sites have high ranking, but don’t offer links pages—let alone links on their main page.
So that means that I have to find out who is linking to the authority sites, and giving them all of that high page rank love. Then, alll I need to do is get those same site to link to me and I also become an authority site.
(The difference is that I will be generous with my links. I’m always willing to hand out links to someone with something interesting to share)
Randy Cullom has created an interesting web tool for finding the authority sites and their backlinks. On his site, he has a page where you type in a keyword or two. It then finds the highest ranked pages in either Google or Yahoo for those terms. Clicking on another button will find the backlinks that all of them have in common. Presumably, these are among the pages that are generating high powered links for the authority.
I’ve had mixed results for my websites’ keywords. You ought to give it a try yourself.
