Getting Started With FastClick
FastClick offers a banner-based advertising program. After inserting the Fastclick code into your site, it begins delivering a wide variety of ads. How you get paid depends upon the type of ads delivered.
To get started, you need to go to Fastclick and apply. Once your application is accepted, you can follow the link back and get started.
Be sure to study the terms of agreement. Like all of the advertising programs, Fastclick has some restrictions about which they are serious. Fastclick insists, for example that the ads be shown at the top of the page.
Go to the Ad Codes section and get the code for the 728/468 banners.
Once you have the HTML, copy and paste it into a page on your basic text editor. Store it here while you get everything else ready. Now, all you have to do is insert the code into your web pages’ HTML. In difficulty, this is about a 3 on a scale of 1 to 10.
I am once again going to assume that you have taken my advice, and are using WordPress. If not, you will have to adapt these instructions to your own situation.
Go to your site and enter WordPress. Select the Templates tab. The first thing you likely will see is an box on the page labeled: Editing index.php.
This is the base code for your website.
Now, there is the possibility that you will see a message at the bottom of the box telling you that you can’t edit the file becuase the permissions are not set correctly. If you see that, go to your FTP program and use it to access the files on your website. Select the file called index.php and right click. Select Properties / CHMOD. You will be given another window. Set the permissions to “666”. This will give WordPress permission to alter the file. Exit the FTP Program.
Go back to the Templates tab.
Scroll down into the template file until you find the following code:
Everything that comes after this is stuff that appears in website
Copy the ad code from your text processor and paste it into the WordPress template immedately under the body tag. Then, click update file.
Go to your site and make sure it looks ok. DO NOT CLICK ON THE ADS.
FastClick’s ads should start serving immediately.
